Never say never

I’m betting that everyone has said, at some point in their life, that they would never do something. …and then done it (at some point in their life).

I know I have. On numerous occasions.

“I don’t like garlic, I will never eat it.” …DS would be able to attest to this, so much so that after saying this statement so often in the early stages of our relationship, he still sometimes thinks I don’t like garlic. I do, I use it in cooking all the time ;)

“I will never rent again.” …this was after a particularly bad experience with a real estate agent. We’ve rented since, we’re renting now. It happens ;)

“I will never work in an office indoors.” ….Mum remembers me saying this in my teens….and what have I spent the past 13 years doing?? Yep, working in an office indoors.

“I will never go back to University again.” …I am certain I said this 13 years ago (almost to the day) when I completed my first University degree.

But, here I am, sitting on the couch with my laptop eating a very University-student type meal of rice (it was the healthier option of brown rice!), canned tuna and peas (I was very busy all day doing house work and too exhausted to cook!), pondering my first day (again) at Uni tomorrow. (Eeeeek!)

When I said back on the 10th June after my long break from blogging that I was up to something that was a little bit exciting…and a little bit scary, this is what I was cooking up. It all happened so quickly.

I had been thinking about going back to study for the better part of the past 18 months. I needed a change in direction but I didn’t really know what direction to take. In fact, I had no idea! I have been working in the travel industry for the past 13 years. Aside from a few administration skills, it was all I knew. I felt that if I wanted to change direction (in a major way), I would have to go back to study.

I looked at various options, studying at TAFE, externally, part-time, full-time and online. I looked at various courses, everything from landscaping to counselling. It wasn’t until I saw that some universities do a mid-year intake that I seriously started to do something about it.

Something tingled inside of me, and I had a feeling that the time was now.

I applied to enrol in a Bachelor of Health Science and waited to see what would happen. A degree related to health was something that I had looked at before, don’t worry. I didn’t just randomly pick a degree out of a hat! Although, that could be kind of fun, no?!

Never say Never!

I got in, I’ve enrolled in my subjects and I am ready to go! I think! I am focussing on the positives and rolling with it. I know now (aaaah…the beauty of wisdom – hehe!) that if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try. I know that it’s going to be hard (and yes, I am going to be a “mature-age” student), but I (think) I’m quite prepared for the challenge! I’ve been working towards this for the past year, and the time is now!

It does mean, however, that I’m going to put my blogging on hold….not forever, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that I will never get back to it, but, right now, I need to focus on my studies.

I thank you all for all your comments and support over the past year or so, and I hope that I’ll have time to pop in and see how you’re all doing in the coming months. If I don’t, it doesn’t mean I don’t want to…just that I don’t have the time to.

With that, I will leave you with two quotes I have displayed in our house right now:

From David Hart’s (Pro Hart’s son) Daily Inspirations:

“If you choose not to push yourself beyond your comfort zone you will never know what you’re capable of achieving.”

From Adele Basheer (Instrinsic) Intuition Cards:

“All it takes is one small step in order to go forward. Trust yourself. You can do whatever it takes.”

Trust yourself.
